DESCRIPTOR: High School Prerequisite 1 ENGLISH

DEFINITION: Four units of English: At least two must have strong grammar and composition components, and at least one must be in English Literature and at least one must be in American literature (completion of college preparatory English I, II, III, and IV will meet this criterion).

VALUES:

  • 1 = Met prerequisite
    2 = Did not; Prerequisite waived
    3 = Did not; Additional course work required
    4 = Not applicable
    5 = Did not; Prerequisite waived, completed Communications for the Workforce I for 1 unit of English
    6 = Did not; Prerequisite waived, completed Communications for the Workforce II for 1 unit of English
    7 = Did not; Prerequisite waived, completed Communications for the Workforce I & II for 2 units of English

NOTE: This is the official definition developed by Academic Affairs and approved by the Commission on Higher Education for minimum high school course requirements for admission to any college in South Carolina.  This field will be used primarily in the analysis of first-time freshmen.  It is not applicable to international students or students who completed high school with a GED.
