ASSESSMENT METHODS
The Student Development Transcript is a record of a student's co-curricular participation in programs and services. When looked at on the whole, besides providing information on individual students, the transcript system provides information on attendance at events, shows which categories of developmental outcomes have active participation and which have low participation, and serves as a resource document to plan activities in order to provide a balanced program of opportunities in the nine outcome areas. Finally, the existence of the Student Development Transcript system stresses to students the importance of development of the whole person in order to be properly prepared to function in the world of work and to adequately serve one's community, state, and nation. A sample copy can be viewed at http://www.uscsu.sc.edu/student_affairs/sdt/sdt.htm
A survey form was distributed from various offices on campus in an attempt to reach a diverse group of students. A total of 117 survey forms were submitted. As with most surveys, not every question was answered by every student. Therefore, the total responses to a particular question will vary.
A three-day retreat was held at James Island State Park in Charleston, South Carolina. Twenty-two students participated in the leadership retreat. A ten-question evaluation form was distributed and collected.
A one-day leadership conference was held on the USC Columbia campus. USC Sumter students were able to meet with students from colleges across the southeast. Evaluation forms were distributed and collected after the conference.
Evaluation forms were distributed to students at each orientation session. USC Sumter holds orientation sessions throughout the year.
ASSESSMENT RESULTS
Assessment Results Based On The Student Development Transcript
The Student Development Transcript system continues to be a valuable assessment tool in a number of ways. From the summary data contained in TABLES I, II, & III, levels of student participation can be gauged, areas of participation can be identified, comparative attendance figures can be evaluated, and an overall sense of where students are putting their time and energy can be obtained.
