Assessment Criteria - Electronic Communication
Goal
Students will be able to use computers and other technology to perform tasks
appropriate to their major fields.
Objective A. Students will demonstrate the ability to create, edit and revise written
texts using computers.
- 4 OUTSTANDING
Uses advanced word processing skills to produce professional-quality text; shows knowledge of
word processing features to control presentation and format of text for various audiences and
purposes; proficiency in using editing features, and is clearly controlling improvements from one
version to the next.
- 3 EFFECTIVE
Creates written text using advanced word processing capabilities to produce complex formats for
academic writing; technically correct final document shows evidence of rewriting and editing.
- 2 ADEQUATE
Creates written text using basic word processing capabilities to achieve consistent format
and correct spelling; shows original and edited versions of documents.
- 1 INEFFECTIVE
Avoids use of computer altogether or uses it to create a simple document with no evidence that
editing, spelling or formatting functions enhance the original document or improve the revisions.
Objective C. Students will demonstrate the ability to use computers to access
Information and data bases.
- 4 OUTSTANDING
Consistently seeks opportunities to use computers to retrieve information from local data bases,
on-line library catalog, and remote locations and uses information appropriately.
- 3 EFFECTIVE
Uses computers independently to retrieve information from local data bases, on-line library
catalogs and remote locations and uses information appropriately.
- 2 ADEQUATE
Uses computers to retrieve information from local data bases, on-line library catalogs and remote
locations and uses information appropriately; and identifies resources for assistance when
needed.
- 1 INEFFECTIVE
Avoids use of-computers to retrieve information from data bases; uses on-line library catalog with
assistance.
Objective D. Students will demonstrate the ability to integrate graphical, visual and
statistical information electronically into written presentations as appropriate.
- 4 OUTSTANDING
Generates visual representations of data from files in a variety of formats; chooses most
appropriate for communication purposes and incorporates the image into text or other files to
increase understanding.
- 3 EFFECTIVE
Incorporates existing electronic graphic information file into a text file to enhance quality of
document or final presentation.
- 2 ADEQUATE
Constructs tables or charts within text documents or adds text to graphic documents to enhance
quality of presentation.
- 1 INEFFECTIVE
Incorporates no graphic information into texts electronically.
