Respondent Profile - NSSE 2001

A total of 93 first-year students and 130 seniors completed NSSE in 2001. A basic demographic breakdown of respondents looks like this:

  • 62% Female & 38% Male - First-year students
  • 71% Female & 29% Male - Seniors
  • First-year students were 69% White/Caucasian, 18% Black/African American, 11% Asian American/Pacific Islander, 1% American Indian, 3% Hispanic, 2% Multiracial, and 0% Other
  • Senior students were 80% White/Caucasian, 15% Black/African American, 1% Asian American/Pacific Islander, 2% American Indian, 3% Hispanic, 2% Multiracial, and 0% Other
  • 17% of first year students indicated they were members of a social fraternity or sorority; 26% of seniors indicated they were

The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) is an annual survey administered at colleges and universities nationwide that assesses the extent to which students engage in educationally effective activities. The guiding premise is that student participation in these activities at reasonable levels is a meaningful proxy for collegiate quality.
